Photographing Northumberland: Dunstanburgh Castle (Joseph Turner’s View)
I’m a huge admirer of British landscape painter Joseph Mallord William Turner. (If you’ve not been to the Clore Gallery in Tate Britain then go. Right now.) Turner visited Northumberland in 1797 and during the trip sketched various views of Dunstanburgh Castle. Although he never returned, Turner used those sketches to create a variety of paintings featuring the castle in the following decades.
Join me as I explore the coastline near Dunstanburgh Castle and discover whether I regret wearing too many layers (no); whether I should check my mic every time I start recording; and why I sometimes don’t want the sun to come out…
